Full Moon Over Portsmouth…
This is what you can do, handheld, with a Nikon D7100 set at ISO 6400(!) and an ancient (1977-81) Nikon 80-200 f/4.5n lens!
Per Ken Rockwell, this is one of Nikon’s ten best lenses ever; it’s certainly one of the best I’ve ever used. I don’t focusing my own lens when I can get results like this for under $100.
Three Not-So-Mellow-Yellow MINIs
Tomorrow is the annual Cooper Vineyards MINI Rally. (Seriously, where else would we go?)
It’s a big MINI event, if you’ll pardon the pun. Four clubs participate: Hampton Roads (mine), the two in Richmond, and one from DC. The drive is what we call “spirited” — all hills and twistees. It’s a little hard on my left leg because I drive a stick, but it’s a blast!
The rally is always fun. Good food and entertainment, and a great place to connect with friends I haven’t seen in a while. And there’s a bonus, at least for me: it’s about half way to IKEA!
All in all, a great MINI day. I wouldn’t miss it for anything!
Except I may not be able to go. If I have trouble sleeping or wake up with a migraine… no twistees for me. It’s also going to be in the 90’s, and I doubt they’ll reschedule for the heat. If I go, I’ll post photos.
Comments are below; please use them. I’d like to think that someone is reading this.
BTW, that’s my BumbleBee in the middle. They no longer let me back into spaces.
The car wash from the car’s point of view
I received permission to stay in the MINI at the car wash, and this is the result. It was shot on my iPhone and processed on the iPad. Please ask questions, leave praise, or throw virtual rotten tomatoes at me via the comments, below.
I just realized I haven’t posted in about a week. It’s been crazy: torrential rain, thunderstorms, tornado watches, threats of ice cubes falling from the sky…
Update on Pinhole Day. I did not shoot any photos Sunday; I spent the time prepping for an Apple interview that evening. It went well, but I don’t know yet if I move on to the second interview. This is my third attempt to get hired there. Each time I get a little closer to the prize – an email address ending with “apple.com” and an iPhone-sized name tag hanging around my neck.
Tomorrow I drive my MINI to Crown for an inspection and wheel alignment. (I know I can get my car inspected anywhere, but what are the chances that “anywhere” will have the parts if it needs something? Michelins have to be ordered in, for Pete’s sake.) I don’t even try to get in at Checkered Flag; that’s a lost cause until they double their service bays. It’s so bad that Crown – 90 miles away in Richmond – refers to itself a Tidewater MINI dealer.
I’m taking my camera and some knitting with me.
I got my tax refund last week.
Last night, a pothole ate one of my Michelins…
